Antonio Cosentino, age 88, of North York passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital on February 8, 2024. Beloved husband of Vincenza and loving father of Emilio (Debbie) and Frank (Lucy). Devoted grandfather of Chantelle (Andy), Erica and Alexander and great grandfather to Lucas and Makayla. He will be greatly missed by his brother Frank (Mary) and sisters-in-law Lida and Josie. Predeceased by his parents Emilio and Rosaria and brother Valerio (Lida).
Antonio was born in Rende Cosenza, Italy on January 18, 1936 and he came to Canada with his family in the early 1950’s.
At age 18 he worked at the Pilkington Glass Factory and became very skilled at creating works of art engraving glass.
On July 19, 1958 he married the love of his life, Vincenza, in Toronto, Ontario.
Tony and his brother in law, Luigi (Josie) became entrepreneurs and partnered up to own Sunoco gas stations and auto garages in the GTA in the mid 1960’s.
He later took his skills of working on cars and brought them to work at Goodyear for over 10 years.
The entrepreneurial spirit Tony had, came out again when he partnered with Luigi and his son Emilio to buy a fish & chips restaurant in 1998 in Etobicoke.
He had a love for the land that showed with his well tended garden and the fig trees which he took such good care of. The garden and trees gave their love back tenfold with their nutritious harvest that was shared generously among family and friends.
He found great joy in gathering his family to go see the horses race at the Queen’s Plate every year.
Tony was known to his family, friends and strangers alike as being friendly and kind. He always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. His grandchildren, nieces and nephews gravitated towards him because of the playful love in his heart that he shared generously with them.
Tony will be greatly missed by his nieces, nephews and his many friends and relatives and yet the love he shared in everything he did will live on in all of us.
Special thanks to the staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital who cared for him with warmth and compassion during his time there.
