It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved Antonio Greco. Antonio was born on February 7, 1947, in the charming small town of Malito, Cosenza, Italy. He was the second of nine children born to his loving parents, Vincenzo Greco and Nirda Polito. At the tender age of nine, Antonio emigrated to Canada in 1954, arriving through Halifax. His family eventually settled in Red Lake, where they became part of the mining community.
In 1970, Antonio met the love of his life, Giuseppina De Santis, and the two married in 1972. They shared a wonderfully happy marriage for 54 beautiful years. Antonio was a devoted husband and son who cherished his family above all else. With his big personality and hospitable nature, he loved entertaining company and sharing stories. Antonio had a great sense of humor and enjoyed playful banter with his wife, making him an absolute joy to be around.
Antonio had a deep love for the outdoors and found solace in driving his truck through the countryside with his beloved Giuseppina by his side. He always felt a strong connection to the North, which he considered his true calling.
Antonio had a passion for music, particularly old Italian tunes, and he could spend hours by his stereo, completely immersed in the melodies. Whether he was on long drives in his truck or relaxing in his living room, you'd often find him listening to his favorites, especially the timeless songs of Claudio Villa.
Antonio was also quite the handyman. His garage was a treasure trove of tools and equipment, and many of us couldn't help but feel a twinge of envy at his impressive collection. He and his wife took great pride in their home in Brampton, where Tony was always busy with improvements and additions. One of the highlights was the massive cellar he built, where he meticulously stored his homemade capocollo, prosciutto, suppressants, and tomato sauce.
Despite battling numerous ailments and spending much time in and out of the hospital over the past year, Antonio remained strong and stayed positive throughout his battle. He was the same Antonio we all knew and loved right up until the end.
We will all miss Antonio dearly, but we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will live on in the cherished memories we hold close to our hearts. May he rest in peace.
