Bill Atanasoff, passed away on July 31, 2026 at Grove Park Nursing Home in Barrie, after several bouts of pneumonia.
Born August 8, 1952 in Toronto, Bill grew up in Scarborough, was a great goalie, playing hockey right through his teen years. Bill graduated from the Radio and Television program at Ryerson. Bill then spent his entire career working as a cameraman for City TV News in Toronto. He loved sports, especially tennis.
Tragically, In November of 2010, Bill was hit by a car while filming a news story for City TV. He was left blind and paraplegic. He lived the balance of his life with great bravery and dignity.
He is survived by his sister, Janet Dawson, his brother-in-law, Rick Dawson and his nieces, Andrea Dawson, Jennifer Atanasoff and nephew, Rick Dawson Jr.

A memorial visitation will be held at Westminster Funeral & Reception Centre, 5826 Bathurst Street, located on the grounds of Westminster Cemetery, on Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
A memorial service will follow in the Trillium Chapel from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Westminster Funeral & Reception Centre is located on the west side of Bathurst Street, between Finch and Steeles, and is the first building on the left upon entering the cemetery grounds.
