Carmelo Toma was born on July 15, 1950, in Rogliano, Cosenza, Calabria, to his loving parents, Giuseppina Carpino and Alberto Toma, whom Carmelo affectionately called Mastro Alberto. On December 26, 1966, he came to Canada, where he built a life grounded in hard work, craftsmanship, and deep family devotion.
Carmelo was a highly skilled finish carpenter, known for his precision, pride in his work, and attention to detail. His craftsmanship reflected his patience, discipline, and strong work ethic—qualities that defined both his professional life and his character.
He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Lucia, and a loving father to their three children: Josie, Filomena, and Alberto. He was a proud father-in-law to Filomena’s husband, Kelechi, and to Alberto’s wife, Connie. Above all, Carmelo cherished and adored his grandson, Damian, who brought him immense joy and pride.
Family was the center of Carmelo’s life. He is survived by his sisters Michelina (Francesco †), Franca (Vito †), Rita (Stanislao), and Maria (Angelo). He was predeceased by his sisters Lidia (Giuseppe †), Carolina (Giuseppe †), and Anna, as well as his brother Giovanni (Uliana).
Carmelo also leaves behind a large extended family, including four sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly and held close to his heart.
Outside of his work and family, Carmelo had a lifelong passion for soccer and was a devoted supporter of AC Milan. He also enjoyed following Formula 1, finding excitement and enjoyment in the sport throughout his life.
Carmelo will be remembered for his skilled hands, his quiet strength, and his unwavering love for his family—especially the special bond he shared with his grandson. His legacy lives on through the generations he nurtured and the many lives he touched.
