It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Carmine Gallo on May 15, 2026, in Toronto, at the age of 97.
Carmine was the beloved husband of the late Concetta Gallo and a devoted father to his two daughters, Rosa DiSalvo (Angelo Di Salvo) and Cathy Di Matteo (Tony DiMatteo).
He was a proud and loving Nonno to Pasquale Di Salvo, Roberto Di Salvo (Barbara Pestana), Christopher DiMatteo (Jesse Greene), and Cassandra Di Matteo (Dan Blumberg), and a cherished bisnonno to Ellie CarmenBlumberg and Abigail Drew Blumberg. Carmine considered himself incredibly fortunate to have shared the lives of all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy and softness to his heart.
A carpenter by trade, Carmine was truly a “Mr. Fix-It.” There was never a repair too small, a project too difficult, or a missing tool or screw he could not somehow find. He generously shared his time, knowledge, tools, and talents with anyone who needed help. Even well into his nineties, he remained fiercely independent, living on his own, and caring for himself with determination and pride.
Carmine was also an avid gardener, a loyal school bus driver for his grandchildren, and someone who could always be counted on by family, friends, and neighbours alike. In his younger years, he loved to dance, cyclearound the neighbourhood, and spend time with friends. A true social butterfly, he enjoyed conversation, laughter, and making people smile wherever he went.
Carmine enjoyed on many an occasion a good game of scopa, watching his favourite soccer team, Napoli and more recently embraced new hobbies and simple joys, including painting, baking cookies and, playing games at the retirement home. Tough and resilient in his younger years, it was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who ultimately turned him into this “sweet and gentle man they called Nonno”.
Carmine will be remembered for his generosity, humour, strength, independence, and the love he gave so freely to those around him. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, lessons, and stories that will forever live in the hearts of his family and friends.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
We would like to acknowledge the wonderful staff of caregivers at the Queens Estates Retirement Residenceswho had been caring for our dad for the past 8 months. You will always remain in our hearts for the attention and kindness given to him.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Carmine to the Heart & Stroke Foundation
