Filippo Spadafora passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Cortellucci Hospice Vaughan. He was born in Cosenza, Italy, on February 6, 1931, to Maria (Occhiuto) Spadafora and Francesco Spadafora.
As a young adult, Filippo joined the military in Italy before relocating to Toronto, where he worked as a barber, a maintenance caretaker, and later a farmer. Anyone who knew Filippo recognized his deep connection to nature. He could often be found tending his garden or foraging for mushrooms and cicoria. While indoors, he enjoyed watching television, particularly *The Young and the Restless* and the Discovery Channel, or playing scopa, a traditional Italian card game.
Filippo is survived by his wife Luisa of 60 years, his daughter Mary (David), his grandchildren Matthew (Colleen), Melanie (Eric), and Ashley, his brother Joe (Lina), and his sisters, Irena (Victor) and Emma (Luigi). He has been reunited with his mother Maria, father Francesco, and brothers Aldo (Filomena) and Pasquale (Lidia). Filippo will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him and inspire those who carry forward the traditions he cherished.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Filippo’s memory can be made to Cortellucci Hospice Vaughan where he received exceptional care during his final days. We are forever grateful for the care he received.
