Filomena Emma Asta

Surrounded by her family, our cherished Mom, Filomena passed peacefully on Tuesday April 30th at the age of 98.  She is now reunited with her loving husband Giuseppe.  She is survived by her 7 children -  John (Janina), Tony (Linda), Maria (Joe), Frances (Paul), Lina (Frank), Dorothy (Dominic), and Mario (Grace). She was a loving grandmother to 17 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren and counting. She is also survived by her sister Ida Conte and sister-in-law Eva DeBartolo.

Filomena was born in Rende, Calabria, Italy on February 8, 1926, and immigrated to Canada with her husband and family in 1957 to start a new life. Filomena was a beacon of warmth, love and gentleness that touched all who crossed her path.  Her selflessness knew no bounds as she dedicated her life to love and caring for those she held dear to her heart.  She cherished the many family moments spent together, whether she was preparing a meal, taking a walk, or sharing good laughs around the dinner table. She loved her garden and took pride in all its offerings and beauty and many memories with her family were built there. Among her greatest achievements, she found profound joy in seeing the growth and flourishing of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nurturing them with her gentle spirit and wisdom. Though she may have departed this world, she is leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness that will endure through generations. We celebrate her life and all the beautiful memories we’ve created together. Rest in peace, Riposa in pace Ma.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Sherwood Court LTC for their compassion and care during her final years,  we are forever grateful for your support. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.

Visitation will take place at Westminster on Wednesday May 8^th from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 6:00 – 8:00 pm.  Funeral Service will be held at Westminster Chapel on Thursday May 9^th at 10:30 am.
