Francesco Di Carlo passed away on January 13, 2026, at the age of 89, leaving behind a legacy of devotion to family, kindness to others, and deep pride in his Italian roots.
Born on April 2, 1936, in the town of Corfinio in Abruzzo, Italy, Francesco was the youngest of six children. His early life was shaped by strong family ties and a sense of community that remained with him throughout his life. At just 18 years old, he immigrated to Canada, with no money, beginning a new chapter defined by hard work, perseverance, and opportunity.
In 1961, Francesco married Panfila, his loving wife and lifelong companion. Together, they built a warm and close-knit family and raised their daughters, Susan and Tiziana, with values rooted in simplicity, respect, and togetherness.
Francesco worked in construction and was respected for his dedication and reliability. Outside of work, he was well known in the community for his friendly nature and willingness to help others. Proud of his heritage, he often assisted fellow Italian neighbours by translating English and offering guidance, always happy to lend a hand.
He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures — tending to his garden, playing bocce, cycling to the community center, and spending time playing Italian card games with his wife and friends. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Francesco followed the Toronto Maple Leafs, Juventus, and the Italian national soccer team with great enthusiasm.
Above all, Francesco was a devoted husband, father, nonno, and family man. He will be deeply missed by his wife Panfila, daughters Susan and Tiziana, son-in-law Daniel, and his beloved grandchildren Andrew, Alexander, Amanda, Chanelle, and Zachary, as well as by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
