Gloria Lewis

March 10, 1940 — April 21, 2025

North York

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Gloria Lewis, affectionately known to many as Aunty. She left us peacefully in her sleep on April 21, 2025. Born on March 10, 1940, in Trinidad and Tobago, Gloria’s spirit was as vibrant as the Caribbean itself, shining brightly in the lives of everyone who had the privilege to know her.

To Gloria, family transcended blood ties. She embraced friends, neighbours, and coworkers with open arms, extending her love and compassion generously. Gloria’s nurturing nature was evident in her home, where she welcomed all with warmth and plenty of food. Her endless ability to sew, cook, bake and care for those around her created memories that will forever resonate in the hearts of her loved ones. From Gloria's delicious macaroni pie to her scrumptious roti and beloved black cake, meals shared with her were always made with love, forging bonds that time could never sever.

Gloria's personality was a testament to a life lived for others; Gloria was a giving woman who made sure that no one ever left her presence hungry or feeling unloved. With her flair for cooking and her nurturing spirit, one could easily find oneself enchanted by the joy she exuded. To her family, “to know her was to love her,” and indeed, how blessed they are to have shared their lives with a woman filled with such kindness and passion.

Gloria leaves behind her beloved brother, Lewis, and a family that continues to honour her spirit: niece Chyrel, and niece Jackie and husband Quintin, nephews Joseph, Al, Leton, and great-nephews Samuel, Jerred, and Quintin Jr; as well as great-nieces Marcia and Maya, and great-great-nieces Sameena and Charene, and great-great-nephews Isaiah and Isaac. As well as step-son Clyde and his wife Vermie and their children Clyde Jr., Victor, and Monique. We all carry a piece of her legacy, cherishing the lessons learned and the love shared.

Gloria joins her loving parents, Fabian and Virginia Benn, along with her husband, Simon, sister, Muriel, and brothers George and Francis, who undoubtedly await her with open arms.

Friends and family are invited to commemorate Gloria's extraordinary life at her visitation on April 25, 2025, from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at the Westminster Funeral & Reception Centre, located at 5826 Bathurst St, Toronto, ON. A Mass celebrating her life will follow at St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church at 10:30 AM, ending with her interment at Westminster Cemetery & Mausoleum at 12:00 PM.

The profound impact of Gloria’s life will be cherished forever in the hearts of those she loved. As we gather to reflect on the beautiful memories and laughter shared, let us honour Aunty Gloria, a remarkable woman who enriched our lives with her compassion, delicious meals, and unwavering love.
