On Saturday May 23rd 2026, at 99 years of age, we lost the centre of our universe. Our family matriarch, Margery Richardson, also known as Mom, Nana and Grana, peacefully passed away in Whitby, Ontario.
Margery was born in Fort William, Ontario on Christmas Day 1926 to parents, Donald Malcolm Bell and Marguerite Rose Bell. Her father, a bank manager, was transferred to Weyburn, Saskatchewan where Margery attended school until they moved to Toronto after 6th grade. She graduated high school at North Toronto Collegiate and began to work as a Medical Secretary for Dr. W.T. Mustard at SickKids Hospital. After meeting and falling in love with George Richardson, they married in 1952, welcomed 3 children before moving to her beloved home in Scarborough when expecting #4. After the passing of Margery's mother from cancer, she signed up to volunteer one day a week at Princess Margaret Hospital which lasted 20 years.
Margery was predeceased by her beloved husband, George Baillie Richardson (2000) and her siblings Mac (Gil), Pearl (Milt), Bob (Yvonne), Roger (Pat) and Donna (Len). She was a very cherished Aunt to many nieces and nephews.
She leaves behind her 4 loving children, Bob Richardson (Margot), Donna Richardson, Cathy Lewis (John) and Judy Lott; 12 cherished grandchildren, Megan, Kyle, Mark (Ashley), Cameron (Andrea), Alex (James), Victoria (Ali), Courtney (Justin), Stephen (Nancy), Dale (Garrett), Mitchell, Ben & Bobby; 7 treasured great-grandchildren, Natalie, Sam, Liam, Brynn, Maeve, Owen and Ellis; and 2 adored cats, Ziggy & Sassy.
Family was her greatest joy and her proudest accomplishment. Her home was always the focal point filled with love, good food, and laughter. A devoted Mother, Nana and Grana, Margery will be remembered for her sweet disposition, caring heart, quiet strength, and unwavering love for those closest to her. She was an avid sports fan and was the biggest cheerleader when it came to watching her family or her beloved Toronto Blue Jays & Toronto Argonauts. She came from a curling family and played in a competitive Women's league at Avonlea for many years. A voracious reader, enjoying a good mystery, history or biography book, was never found with out a book in her hand. Her warmth, kindness, and steady presence created many cherished memories that her family and friends will carry with them always. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered forever.
Following Margery's wishes, there will be no funeral service, but a Celebration of Life in her memory to be held at a future date.
If desired, donations in memory of Margery can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.
