Maria Simone

Maria Simone, a beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025, at Sherwood Court Long Term Care Home. Born on December 19, 1933, in Roccamorice, Pescara, Italy, Maria led a life full of love, dedication, and passion for her family.

For many years, Maria worked as a seamstress at Elite Blouse, where her work was  appreciated by all. However, her most significant contributions were made at home, tirelessly caring for her family and all their needs. Known for her unwavering dedication to cooking, cleaning, and gardening, she provided a nurturing environment in which her family could thrive. Maria's kitchen was always filled with the aroma of her delicious homemade dishes, including the family favorite gnocchi served with her delightful homemade sauce. She took great pride in preparing trays of her baked goods to share with everyone around her, a gesture that showcased her generous spirit.

A cherished family gathering place, Maria's home was a hub of activities and warmth. She often gathered her loved ones for Sunday lunch, and as her family grew, she took immense pride in the achievements of her ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Her radiant smile and loving demeanor can be seen in many cherished photographs, reminding her family of the love and pride she had for them all.

Maria had a creative side that was reflected in her hobbies, which included knitting and crocheting while watching television. Her hands were always busy, crafting something special for her family to enjoy.

The passing of Maria was slow and gradual, as she faced the challenges of dementia that took her from her loved ones both mentally and physically. Nevertheless, her legacy of love continues to resonate in the lives of those she left behind.

Maria was predeceased by her beloved husband Emidio Simone and dear son-in-law Francesco Mazzeo. She is survived by her daughters Elvira Quattrociocchi, Lydia Mazzeo, and Rita Simone Pedra, and son Bruno Simone, who will remember her as a guiding light and an extraordinary presence in their lives.

Family and friends are invited to honor Maria's life at Westminster Funeral & Reception Centre in Toronto. Visitation will occur on May 7, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and again from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held the following day, May 8, 2025, at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church at 10:30 AM, followed by interment at Westminster Cemetery & Mausoleum at 12:15 PM.

Maria Simone's spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and she will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
