It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mario Tarantino, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, who left us peacefully on October 29, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on September 13, 1943, in Pentone, Italy, to the late Giuseppe and Maria Tarantino. Mario’s life was a beautiful tapestry of love, laughter, and devotion to family.
Mario was a man whose warmth and kindness touched everyone he met. His gentle heart, steady presence, and genuine smile made all who knew him feel welcome and loved. Family was the center of his world, and he found joy in the simple, beautiful rhythms of everyday life — sharing pizza with loved ones, enjoying a quiet game of solitaire, or watching his favourite soccer and hockey games with excitement and pride.
One of Mario’s greatest joys was spending time in his gardens. His vegetable garden was a true labour of love — rows of tomatoes, peppers, and zucchini carefully tended with patience and pride. Each season, he nurtured it with care, sharing its bounty generously with family and friends. Alongside it, his flower garden bloomed in vibrant color — a reflection of the beauty and love he cultivated in every part of his life. His gardens were his sanctuary, and through them, he shared his warmth, creativity, and connection to nature.
For 58 wonderful years, Mario shared his life with his devoted wife, Lina, his partner in all things. Their marriage was a shining example of love, loyalty, and quiet strength — a bond that will continue to inspire all who knew them.
He was a proud and loving father to Mary-Ann (Swayn) and Adriana (Tonino), and a cherished Nonno to Victoria (Niko) and Dario, and Bisnonno to Stellan. His family was his greatest joy, and the memories they created together will live in their hearts forever.
Mario also held deep affection for his siblings — Eugenia (Giuseppe), Nicola (Lina), the late Antonio, Michele (Grace), and Teresa — and for his extended family, including his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Giulia (the late John), Saverio (Lucy), and the late Teresina. His love for family knew no bounds and was the thread that connected every part of his life.
Though Mario’s passing leaves an unfillable void, his legacy of love, kindness, and quiet strength will continue to guide and comfort those who were blessed to know him. His laughter, his stories, and the beauty of his gardens will be remembered always.
As we celebrate Mario’s life, we hold close the lessons he shared — to love deeply, to care for one another, and to find joy in life’s simple moments.
In lieu of flowers, and in memory of Mario, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Mario will be forever in our hearts.
