In Loving Memory of Maya, a Beautiful Soul
With hearts that are broken beyond words, we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, sister, cousin, granddaughter, niece, family member, and friend. Though her time with us was far too short, the love she gave and the impact she made will remain with us forever.
At just 17 years old, she had already lived with a depth, curiosity, and authenticity that many spend a lifetime searching for. She had recently attended her prom and was only days away from graduating high school, a milestone she had worked very hard toward. She stood at the edge of adulthood, dreaming of what came next and eager to begin writing the next chapter of her life.
From the day she was born, she carried a light that could never be ignored. She was witty, funny, and quick with a clever comeback. She had an old soul wrapped in youthful energy, a rare combination that made conversations with her unforgettable. She wasn't afraid to ask questions, to challenge ideas, or to share exactly what she thought. She was curious about life and believed that even when she didn't have all the answers, somehow, someday, she would find them.
Art was where her heart came alive. She dreamed of becoming a tattoo artist, seeing beauty where others might overlook it. Creativity wasn't simply something she enjoyed, it was part of who she was. Whether through art, fashion, or music, she expressed herself with confidence and originality. She had an incredible sense of style, thoughtfully putting together for school every morning, finding joy in every detail. Her taste in music was legendary, introducing others to songs that felt timeless.
She loved deeply.
She adored her older sister and looked up to her in countless ways. She loved and cherished every moment with her cousins. Friendship wasn't always easy for her to find, but once someone earned a place in her heart, they stayed there forever. Loyalty wasn't something she practiced, it was simply who she was.
She had an extraordinary way of showing up for others. Whenever someone was hurting, she instinctively wanted to help. If she loved you, she gave you everything she had to give. At the same time, she quietly taught those around her what it meant to love yourself. She knew her worth, embraced who she was, and encouraged others to do the same.
As a daughter, she brought laughter, honest conversations, and moments that will forever be treasured. She shared pieces of her world when she was ready, trusted those she loved, and never lost her excitement about discovering who she was becoming. She lived fully in the present while eagerly anticipating the future.
There were still so many dreams waiting for her.
So many places she wanted to see.
So much art left to create.
So much love left to give.
While her journey ended far sooner than anyone could have imagined, her story does not end here. She lives on in every laugh she inspired, every act of kindness she showed, every piece of art that reminds us of her, everything Spider-Man, every song that makes us think of her, and every person whose life became brighter because they knew her.
She will be deeply missed beyond measure.
She will be remembered for her laughter, her courage, her creativity, her fierce loyalty, and the beautiful spirit that made her entirely unforgettable.
Most of all, she will always be loved.
She leaves behind a mother whose love for her knows no end, an older sister who will forever carry her in her heart, a grandma who will always feel her presence, a loving father who was immensely proud of the young woman she was becoming, a devoted stepmother who cared for her with kindness and dedication, her paternal grandma whose love for her was unwavering, her beloved cousins, family, and friends who were blessed to know her.
Our hearts are forever changed by her absence, but they are equally forever grateful for the gift of her life.
Though her time on earth was brief, our love for her is eternal.
Rest peacefully, beautiful sunshine.
You will always be our greatest work of art.
