Michael Damian
McCormick
Jul 1, 1969 — Oct 29, 2026
With heavy hearts, the family of Michael (Mike) Damian McCormick announces his passing on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at the age of 57.
Mike was a devoted husband, loving son, cherished brother and uncle, loyal friend, and passionate advocate for causes that held special meaning in his life. Mike lived his life with extraordinary strength, grace and determination. Rather than letting life's challenges define him, he rose above them, to live as fully and authentically as he could. His spirit, courage and resilience will remain an inspiration to all.
Mike was the best friend and dearly beloved husband of Heather, his partner in life and laughter for 33 years, with whom he shared countless unforgettable adventures and experiences. He was the cherished son of Brendan and Noreen, a loving brother to Kevin (Carm) and Denise (Steve), and a treasured member of a large extended family. He was a much-loved uncle to Marin, Sophia, Jay, Olivia, Natalie, Amber, Ben, Norah, Wren, and William. Mike also shared his home and affection with his beloved cat, Spicy, who was a special part of the family, and always seemed to know when extra doses of comfort or purrs were needed.
Mike was a warm, social soul, who cherished spending time with his friends and family. He very much enjoyed travelling, curling, sailing, and attending live music and sporting events. He graduated from the University of Waterloo, with a slight detour to the University of Calgary, then spent the majority of his career working at the Toronto Stock Exchange.
One of the most meaningful aspects of Mike's life was his dedication to helping others. He was deeply committed to advocacy and volunteerism. Most notably, he gave his time to the Can-SOLVE CKD Network, helping advance patient-centered kidney research across Canada, and the Ontario Renal Network, working to improve care and resources for kidney patients across the province. He presented at numerous conferences and events to educate on the patient's perspective in kidney care.
Although Mike's passing brings great sadness, family and friends will carry forward the memories of the experiences they shared, the causes he championed, and the love he had for those around him. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of all those who knew him. Though he is gone, gratitude for the time we were given with him will carry us forward, and the warmth of his optimism and the lesson of his resilience will guide us always.
The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to everyone who has offered kindness, compassion, and support during this time. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Mike's family here.
A Celebration of Mike's Life will be held at a later date. Further details will be announced once arrangements have been confirmed.
Mike's dedication to advocacy, volunteerism, and supporting others was an important part of his life. In keeping with his commitment to making a positive difference, the family welcomes memorial donations in his honour via the following tribute pages:
