Salvatore was the beloved husband to his wife Maria (Sottile), for an incredible 66 years. Together, they created a loving family that he cherished deeply. Cherished father of Giovanni (Teresa), Carlo (Leslie), and Roberto (Jennifer). Proudest Nonno of his grandchildren Salvatore, Marilena, Michael, Nathan and Anthony, who all brought him immense joy and pride. His wife Maria ensured he had the best of everything. As his health became compromised, she made sure he was received the best care possible and always being by his side. Together with their caregiver Justine, Salvatore knew that he was loved and cared for.
He was born on May 3, 1936, in Carolei, Cosenza, Italy. Loving son of Antonio Giovanni and Antonietta Perri. Loving brother to Maria (Adelmo), Luigi (Romilda), Teresa (Giuseppe) and Rita (Giovanni) and the many nephews and nieces who he held special. Salvatore cared deeply about his siblings both in Italy and in New York. He often would call them to make sure they were ok and made many trips through the years to visit them. He had a special bond with his brother as they both knew that even if they were hours away, they were just a phone call away.
Immigrating to Canada in 1960 and not speaking the language, he persevered through many challenges and opportunities that allowed him to use his natural skills and hard work ethic. These opportunities opened the doors for Salvatore to begin his professional life as a self-employed contractor. A role that allowed him to showcase his incredible craftsmanship. His legacy lives on through his grandson Salvatore.
Beyond his career, Salvatore had a passion for life that was evident in everything he did. He enjoyed the finer things, such as his beloved Ferrari’s and motorcycles. Sunday mornings were dedicated to watching the Formula 1 races. He had the privilege of attending races in Montreal, creating memories with his son Giovanni and friends. Ferrari Red was by far his favourite color. He enjoyed going for rides on his motorcycle which brought back memories of when he rode his motorcycle back home. He enjoyed watching hockey & soccer matches. He even had the opportunity to attend the 2011/2012 Stanley Cup finals in Boston with his son Carlo and the raising of the Boston Bruins Stanley Cup banner in 2012 with his son Carlo and his grandsons Sal, and Nathan. This was a real special moment in his life and something that we always reminisced about.
His past time was watching Western movies, episodes of the Three Stooges and his Italian soap opera “Un Posto Al Sole”. It was his dedication to helping his children, family and friends that truly defined him.
An avid lover of food, Salvatore enjoyed his Sunday plate of pasta with meatballs accompanied by a glass of wine often diluted with ginger ale. He made sure everyone had wine in their glass. It was being surrounded by family that made the meal taste even better.
Salvatore leaves a legacy of love, laughter and memorable stories that will be cherished by all who knew him. His spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends who will always remember him not only for his love of life and fun but also for his unwavering support and dedication to those he held dear.
