It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Santina Gemmiti, who was born on April 8, 1937, in Sora, Italy, and passed away peacefully at home in Toronto on September 21, 2026, at the age of 89, surrounded by the people she loved most.
Santina immigrated to Canada in 1957. Together with her beloved husband, Loreto, she built a beautiful life, raised two children, and created a loving and prosperous home for her family. Santina worked hard throughout her life, both raising her family and working in Toronto’s leather goods manufacturing industry.
A faithful Christian, Santina found joy in cooking, gardening, and, above all, caring for her children and grandchildren. Her greatest happiness came from being surrounded by her family. She was a beautiful soul—devoted to her family, her faith, and to showing kindness to others. Her smile radiated pure joy and goodness.
In recent years, Santina endured tremendous loss and health challenges, including the passing of her beloved son, Tony, her diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and the loss of her husband, Loreto. Through it all, her gentle spirit and love for her family remained at the heart of who she was.
Santina is predeceased by her husband, Loreto, and her son, Tony (Mary). She leaves behind her daughter, Paola (Tony Bagnara); her grandchildren, Michael (Kathleen), Robert (Harrison), Giampiero, and Stefano; and her great-grandchildren, Darcy and Mia. She will be deeply missed by her many family members and friends in Canada and Italy.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Santina’s longtime caregivers, Cheche, Linda, and Marietta, and to Dr. Forcina, for their incredible compassion, dedication, and care over the years.
We will miss Santina deeply. We will find comfort in the memories she leaves behind—the joy, happiness, laughter, love, and countless special moments we were blessed to share with her. We are truly blessed to have known and loved her, and her memory will remain in our hearts
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Santina to the Alzheimer's Society and the Multiple Myeloma Foundation
